Our favorite pet
1. In Israel about 30% of all families have a pet. The most popular pets are dogs, cats, fish and birds. However, dogs are Israelis' favorite pets. Some people say their dogs are really part of their family. They play with the children and are also happy to sit with the whole family and watch television.
2. However, when you have a dog, you need to spend a lot of money to care for it. A dog needs good food to eat and toys to play with. It will also need medicine when it becomes sick. But most people are happy to spend this money on their pet. They say it is the same as paying for things for their children.
3. Dogs are not only fun pets. Sometimes they also work. People who can't see well sometimes have a dog to help them. These dogs show them where it is safe to walk and help them cross the road when there is traffic. There are also dogs that help people who can't hear well. These dogs let them know when someone calls their name, or when a visitor arrives at the door of their home.
4. Dogs are also good for old people who live alone. A dog stops them from being lonely because they feel like they always have a friend in their home. It also keeps them healthy because they must go for walks with their dog every day. It is easy to understand why dogs are popular with so many people.
